The Iloilo City government is strengthening its education program with its latest initiative to extend financial assistance to college students in the city.
During yesterday’s regular flag-raising program, Mayor Jose Espinosa III announced he would endorse to the Sangguniang Panlungsod a proposed ordinance, which will provide for education financial assistance to college students of the city.
Under the proposal, each scholar will receive P1,000 allowance per month for five months.
Once it is passed, the city government will start accepting applicants for school year 2018-2019. The target is to have 200 scholars for the school year,
The local government also operates the Iloilo City Community College (ICCC) that offers low tuition fees to indigent students.
Some 400 students enrolled in the community college will be enjoying the benefits for college students, as provided under Republic Act 10931, also known as Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act of 2017. (PNA)
