According to the Bacolod City Health Office (CHO), the number of dengue cases in the city has “significantly dropped.”
CHO Environmental Sanitation Division head, Dr. Grace Tan, said they have recorded 213 dengue cases this year, compared to 279 in 2017, a drop of 23.7 percent.
Tan said the number of dengue-related fatalities also dropped, with three recorded this year, compared to four last year.
Tan said they are aiming to further reduce the number of dengue cases in the city and reminded everyone to regularly clean their surroundings in order to eliminate possible breeding grounds for dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
“We are closely monitoring because [an] increase in [dengue] cases is possible if we are not careful,” Tan said.
With the rainy season set to begin anytime between the end of this month and June, Tan added they are expecting numbers to increase./DGB, WDJ
