The Land Transportation Office-Region VI (LTO-6) has been communicating constantly with tricycle operators, along with their respective association leaders, through tricycle summits, which are intended to impart knowledge of traffic laws onto tricycle operators. Such events have already taken place in Kabankalan City, Pontevedra, Silay City, Murcia, among other localities, where LTO-6 Director Roland Ramos stresses the responsibility operators have over the safety of their passengers.

LTO-6 Provincial Law Enforcement Service head Renato Novero also provides advice for operators during the summits, including the prohibition of such vehicles along highways. Organizers also appealed for operators, for the sake of consideration, to only utilize the right lane.

Obviously, Ramos means business.

Talking with LTO officials, they also urged the public to refrain from negotiating with non-LTO personnel, who are often stationed outside their office. They say these “fixers” claim LTO officials need to be provided money in order to make arrangements – no such money goes to real officials.

Meanwhile, the Bacolod City LTO now has space for motor vehicle inspections in the front of the building in order to ensure dilapidated public utility vehicles, which President Rodrigo Duterte does not want operating on the roads, to be physically inspected on premises.

Many wonder why the city and provincial Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) no longer conducts their campaign against overloaded trucks, considering it is their responsibility to apprehend such vehicles.

For sure, DPWH personnel are not busy.
