Do not mourn Boracay’s closure

As Boracay closes to the world, we know it will be a big financial loss. Who would ever think the island would be closed? Only the likes of President Rodrigo Duterte, who is looked at as a man of no mercy, could push through with it.

The president is a man who can see the successes and failures awaiting the island, but the greed (and possible corruption) that led to the abuse of natural resources needed to be stopped. He believes it would be better to close the island for rehabilitation than to leave it in its current state.

Both private investors and erring politicians carried this greed for material wealth, but, now, the president has taken action. What happens next? Who will be hanged for their misdeeds?

Is it true Bacolod City beat out Clark to host this year’s Meetings, Incentive Travel, Conventions, Exhibitions Conference (Micecon)? Is so, hats off to all who made it possible. However, hosting is no joke, around P7 million in seed money will be needed to make it happen.

Maybe then Bacolod City will be cleaner – no more clotheslines hung up by informal settlers, dilapidated trisikads crowding the roads, and unhygienic garbage all over.

Such material strewn along the side of the road, left by informal settlers and street vendors, are an eyesore.

Why have there been so many power outages? What needs to be corrected? Who are on the Central Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Ceneco) board?
