The Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday revealed around 2,376 individuals have filed their certificates of candidacy (COC) for next month’s barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.

Among the group are several local media personalities vying for various barangay positions throughout Bacolod City.

DYAF Radyo Veritas anchor Edmundo King Aspero will be running for Barangay 35 captain. Meanwhile, kagawad aspirants include Radyo Bandera Sweet FM-Bacolod personalities Eljohn Castaño in Barangay Granada, Kirby Federez in Barangay 41, Rico Gantalao in Barangay Banago; and Aksyon Radyo-Bacolod reporter John Dale Salazar in Barangay Alijis.

According to Comelec-Bacolod Elections Supervisor, Atty. Mavil Majarucon-Sia, around 166 will be running for barangay captain, 1,320 for barangay kagawad, 165 for SK chair, and 725 for SK kagawad.

The local Comelec official, however, clarified the numbers are not yet final as there is still possibility some candidates may be disqualified.
