Western Visayas wins in basketball

The Western Visayas registered wins in both the boys’ and girls’ basketball competitions of the ongoing 2018 Palarong Pambansa in Ilocos Sur. The Region VI elementary boys’ team defeated the Ilocos Region, 77-56; while, in the secondary division, the girls beat the Central Visayas, 73-25, and the boys defeated Caraga, 106-85.

The elementary team opened the game with a big 18-6 lead, which later extended to 35-15 at the half.

The Bacolod Tay Tung High School side continued to lead throughout the rest of the game.

Sander Bayona led the win with 10 points.

In other sports, Jessie Mae Beso of Manuel Onato National High School, located in Capiz, collected medals for the Western Visayas in arnis, taking gold in the secondary girls’ individual double weapon and silver in the espada y daga. Meanwhile, Kyle Angelo Tiron of Cabatuan Central Elementary School won silver in the individual single weapon category.

In addition, the Western Visayas elementary boys’ football entered the quarterfinals after beating the Cordillera Administrative Region, 8-0./JSG, WDJ
