At least one person is confirmed dead, while another was seriously injured, after a motorcycle slammed head-on with a cane truck along the national highway in Barangay Binicuil, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, yesterday morning.

Police identified the fatality as 39-year-old Analiza Padorna, the motorcycle back rider and resident of Sitio Tambo in Barangay Inayawan, Cauayan; while 28-year-old Antonio Coyaqbo, also a resident of Cauayan and the operator of the motorcycle, was injured.

Kabankalan City Police Station officer-in-charge, Police Senior Inspector Gerald Moya, said Coyaqbo’s motorcycle was traveling along a curved road and failed to see the oncoming truck driven by 40-year-old Edgar Requinto.

Padorna was instantly killed on impact, while Coyaqbo was rushed to a hospital in Bacolod City due to multiple injuries.

Moya said the victims were not wearing helmets and Coyaqbo only presented a student driver’s license following the accident.

Meanwhile, as the victim decided if they will file charges, Requinto is temporarily detained by Kabankalan City police./DGB, WDJ
