With resort destination Boracay preparing for a six-month closure, beginning April 26, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) recently announced they would be providing assistance for local residents who potentially face various issues, particularly regarding their livelihood, with the impending shutdown.

According to the government agency, residents may be eligible for the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), which seeks to provide economic opportunities through skills training, along with providing capital funding.

They also noted, residents may qualify for the agency’s Cash-for-Work (CFW) program, which seeks to provide temporary employment for distressed or displaced individuals

Earlier this year, DSWD distributed CFW funds for families and individuals affected by the Mt. Mayon eruption./WDJ
