Following the recent approval by President Rodrigo Duterte to close resort destination Boracay for six months, Malay Town Councilor Nenette Aguirre-Graf said the decision has left many unhappy.

“People are sad and worried,” said Aguirre-Graf, who also serves as president of Boracay Foundation, Inc. (BFI). “We really don’t know what will happen.”

The closure announcement was made late Wednesday night by Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, Jr. via Twitter, affirming the island would be shuttered on April 26.

“We couldn’t sleep thinking what will happen next,” Aguirre-Graf added.

Meanwhile, a joint meeting was held yesterday between the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council-Region VI and the Regional Peace and Order Council-Region VI to discuss how to go about the closure./WDJ
