According to Bacolod City Police Office-Women and Children Protection Desk (BCPO-WCPD) head, Police Inspector Arlyn Torrendon, the number of cases involving violence against women reduced between this year and last year.

Based on police data, a total 15 cases were recorded between January and February of this year, a drop from the 99 recorded during the same period last year.

Torrendon credited the result to an “active and functional” Violence Against Women and their Children Desk, along with involvement by Barangay Councils for the Protection of Children.

According to RA 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004, forms of abuse include physical, sexual, psychological, and economic./WDJ
