The Philippine National Police (PNP) yesterday issued a memorandum, declaring a gun ban for Barangay Mansilingan in Bacolod City during the upcoming 25th Panaad sa Negros Festival.
Based on documents forwarded by Provincial Executive Assistant Eric Loretizo and signed by PNP Director General Ronald Dela Rosa, a suspension of all permits to carry firearms outside of residence (PTCFOR) will be in effect from April 12 to 22.
During that period, only members of the PNP, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and other law enforcement agencies performing official duties and with proper agency-prescribed uniforms will be allowed to carry firearms.
The suspension aims to boost security during the festivities, as well as ensure no firearm-related incidents occur.
As for festival preparations, Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. said all preparations are complete.
“Everything is ready,” he affirmed. “This [will] be the biggest celebration and we are expecting a lot of visitors.”/DGB, WDJ
