This Saturday, Boracay Island will be literally dark for eight minutes.
“It will be Boracay’s eight minutes for unity,” said Nenette Aguirre-Graf, Sangguniang Bayan (SB) member of the municipality of Malay in Aklan province.
The event will happen around 8:08 p.m. and people will gather at the beachfront for a brief time.
“This will be the symbolic act that will illustrate what will happen to Boracay if it will be closed down,” said Graf, who is president of Boracay Foundation Inc. (BFI).
This came after the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Tourism (DOT) and Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) suggested to President Duterte for a one-month closure of Boracay.
“We’re just united and the event will also highlight our commitment to following environmental laws and conserving our Boracay,” Graf added./WDJ
