Two Ilonggo crew members missing following Maersk vessel fire

Two missing crew members of the Maersk container vessel that caught fire in the Arabian Sea last Tuesday were recently confirmed to be student cadets of John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (JBLFMU).

According to JBLFMU chief executive officer, Dr. Ronald Raymond Lacson Sebastian, the two missing Ilonggo crew members were identified as John Rey Begaso of Barangay Balabago in the Jaro district of Iloilo City and Janrey Genovatin of Barangay Cagbang in Oton.

Carl Vincent Chan, another JBLFMU cadet, was injured.

A representative from the A.P. Moller–Maersk Group confirmed the information to JBLFMU.

A total four crew members are currently missing.

The ship carried a total 27 crew members.

The first struck while the vessel was 1,000 miles off the coast of Oman, en route to the Suez Canal from Singapore./WDJ
