While speaking at a second International Women’s Month launch by the Bacolod City government, Bacolod City Commission on Elections (Comelec) elections officer, Atty. Mavil Majarucon-Sia, addressed an audience at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) last Thursday, where she encouraged more women to seek public office.
“An empowered woman should stand up for the truth,” she declared.
Majarucon-Sia also said more women in office would produce more policies benefiting women and children.
“Women are more aggressive to push for policies, especially if it is for the family’s welfare,” she stated.
Bacolod City Councilor Cindy Rojas, who chairs the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) committee on women and gender, led the recent launch.
An earlier event was held during Monday’s flag-raising ceremony at the BCGC.
The city has lined up a series of activities in observance of the month-long event, including seminars for fathers, self-defense training, a medical mission, skills training, among others.
In addition, a Women’s Congress will be held at the BCGC lobby on March 26./PLL, WDJ
