Why tourism has a great impact

There is one lacking focus when it comes to tourist destinations, selling to tourists as a “composite force.” Resort owners are often hesitant to partner with another destination as each party wants the market share. However, while a traveler staying for one day would not be interested in a three-day adventure, chances are, they will not have second thoughts about coming back.

The issue of affordability is also a concern. Why are resort operators afraid to offer discounts? Oddly enough, they seem content with empty rooms rather than providing rooms at a discount.

Tourism should be trusted with those who understand the trade and local government units must be the supporting force and provide monetary benefits.

When I was in Cagayan de Oro City recently, I rubbed elbows with officers from resorts located on Panglao, a part of Bohol. They expressed their sadness with the current state of Boracay. However, the closure would be a spanking on environmental violators, who have been tolerated by the government. Why? Local government units and environmental agencies have the ability to decline a permit application but did not.

Panglao is different from Boracay is that operations in Bohol are run independently, without the nightlife of the Aklan resort island. Besides the sand and waters of Boracay, the nightlife helped earn the distinction as “best beach in the world.”

Resorts in Sipalay City, Negros Occidental also operate independently, with no common space for guests.

If Rodrigo Duterte was not elected president, Boracay could be swept into the trash bin. No president has ever cared to look into the pollution scenario. Even previous tourism leaders failed to take action and were more concerned about the “political tentacles” of those with influence.
