Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) director, Police Senior Superintendent Francisco Ebreo, said they are currently awaiting the autopsy results of the Police Station 1 (PS1) inmate who allegedly hanged himself inside the station’s detention facility last week.
According to Ebreo, the autopsy report would help bring closure to the family of the inmate, referred to only by the alias ‘Bebot,’ and to assure there was no foul play involved.
Ebreo pointed out PS1 guards did not break any regulations during Bebot’s incarceration.
He explained, in order to avoid any undue harm to the victim and his fellow inmates, as Bebot was intoxicated when he was brought in and was being uncooperative with police, on-duty cops placed him in a separate jail cell until he sobered up.
“The cops did not neglect their duties and they did try to save the victim,” Ebreo added. “It was unfortunate he did not survive.”
Bebot was detained at PS1 after he allegedly became unruly after a night of heavy drinking on Thursday, last week.
The following morning, Bebot was found by guards hanging inside his jail cell, prompting cops to rush the latter to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH), where he was declared dead on arrival.
The PS1 chief believes Bebot may have been suffering from depression, as guards and fellow inmates claimed Bebot was “murmuring” inside his cell prior to the incident./DGB, WDJ
