President Rodrigo Duterte is scheduled to arrive in Iloilo today in order to attend the wake for slain overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Joanna Daniela Demafelis, who was found dead inside a freezer while working abroad in Kuwait.
The visit marks his first time in the province since being elected president in 2016.
Aside from Sara, where Demafelis is from, Duterte is also scheduled to visit Philippine Army 301st Infantry Brigade headquarters at Camp Gen. Adriano Hernandez in Dingle.
Expected to join the president are Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre Bello III, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration head Hans Leo Cacdac, Department of Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol, and Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.
Demafelis is one of several OFWs who had reportedly been mistreated by employers in Kuwait. The Philippine government has since banned the deployment of workers to the Middle East country, with workers being repatriated beginning earlier this month./WDJ
