An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from Murcia, Negros Occidental reportedly died earlier this month after returning home from working in Kuwait, with the family claiming the death was caused by abuse inflicted by her employers.

40-year-old Josie Perez Lloren, a single mother from the town’s Barangay Caliban, returned home last month and was rushed to the Caloocan Medical Center in Metro Manila due to malnutrition.

Lloren died earlier this month due to cerebrovascular disease, which affects the blood supply to the brain and can cause a hemorrhagic stroke; resulting in cardiorespiratory arrest, or cardiac arrest.

She was buried earlier this week at the Murcia Public Cemetery.

The surviving family believes her condition was caused by maltreatment by her employers in Kuwait, who allegedly beat Lloren, provided one meal a day, and overworked her.

Her original employment contract expired last year, but she decided to stay in the country to find a new employer.

The victim’s family is currently seeking the help of the government, urging them to investigate her death.

Lloren is one of several OFWs reportedly being mistreated by employers in Kuwait. The Philippine government has since banned the deployment of workers to the Middle East country, with workers being repatriated beginning earlier this month./DGB, WDJ
