Despite Basyang being downgraded from a tropical storm to a tropical depression as it chrums through the Visayas and Mindanao, the Capiz Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reported flooding in nine municipalities, namely, Panitan, Mambusao, Sigma, Cuartero, Dao, Dumarao, Dumalag, Maayon, and Panay.
Based on reports as of Tuesday evening, PDRRMO head Esperidion Pelaez said waters in two of the three Maayon barangays that reported flooding have already subsided.
Earlier, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Mines and Geosciences Bureau-Region VI (MGB-6) identified several locales across Panay considered to be “critical areas” for landslide and flooding, indicating a vulnerability to the said calamities. Dumalag made both lists.
In addition, according to Pelaez, four families from the town were forced to evacuate.
Last month, following Tropical Depression Agaton, 159 of the province’s 473 barangays reported flooding./PLL, WDJ
