With the 2018 Asian Games set to begin later this year, with opening ceremonies scheduled for August 18, and co-hosted by Indonesian cities Jakarta and Palembang, organizers will be conducting test events to ensure facilities and venues are in working order beginning today, January 8.

Asian Games Committee chairman Erick Thohir noted digital technology is among the new addition to the games.

The Philippines will be sending 37 athletes to take part in the test events, namely in athletics, boxing, pencak silat, and taekwondo.

In addition to those events, organizers will also be running test events for archery, 5-on-5 basketball, volleyball, and weightlifting.

Around 1,000 athletes and officials from across Asia are expected to participate in the test events.

At the last Asian Games, in Incheon, South Korea in 2014, the Philippines took home one gold medal after Daniel Caluag won the BMX competition.

Winning a total 15 medals, the Philippines finished 22nd out of 36 countries./PLL, WDJ
