After being appointed officer-in-charge of the Antique Provincial Jail last week by Antique Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao, retired Colonel Luciano Saiyo said he recently met with jail officials to discuss various reforms to both personnel and inmates.
Among the changes was a requirement for officials to always report to work in uniforms.
“Provincial guards, by wearing their uniforms, would look really as decent professionals,” he explained.
Saiyo also discussed providing more privacy for conjugal rooms; random inspections for weapons and illegal drugs; and more involvement from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in order to provide workplace training for inmates, with hopes they “become productive members of community once they are out.”
The jail official also made mention of the four inmates whose families are currently living at the facility, which he decided to put an end to for safety reasons.
“I had a meeting with them and I told them I would no longer let their families live with them starting Monday (today),” Saiyo said.
He added, the families will be able to visit for two hour periods on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays./PLL, WDJ
