The Association of Negros Artists yesterday condemned the murder of Nunistell Mae Fulo, a local artist, who was killed at her home in Barangay Granada earlier this week.
In a statement released by group founder Joan Honoridez, she said they are “seeking justice” as the local art community lost “a great and beautiful artist.”
The group also expressed their shock and indignation.
Honoridez said Fulo made her mark, not only in the field of visual arts, but as an accomplished folk dancer.
“We need more security through peace education and the arts so that we could be safe, even in our own homes,” she said.
Earlier this week, Fulo was stabbed to death by 27-year-old Sandy Sevilla, after he tried to burglarize the artist’s residence.
Sevilla also stabbed Fulo’s house helper, identified as Mary Grace Muboda, although she was able to call for help.
The suspect was later arrested in a follow-up operation by police and is presently facing criminal charges for the incident.
Fulo was a well-known local artist in the city and was a dancer for the Bayanihan Philippine National Folk Dance Company./DGB, WDJ
