Following the recent conclusion of a study by BYD Auto Industry Co. Ltd., an automobile manufacturer based in Xi’an, China, into a possible monorail system for Iloilo City, the group found such a project would be a reasonable venture.

“It is really feasible that they put up a monorail system in the city,” affirmed Local Economic and Investments Promotion Office (LEIPO) head Ritchel Gavan.

If the project proceeds, the system would begin with routes connecting Iloilo City Hall with the Jaro and Arevalo districts.

Back in August 2017, when the feasibility commenced, then-Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said, “If viable, this project may address the city’s transportation concerns.”

Earlier that year, the then-unnamed group initially proposed the project, with Mabilog noting, they had already met with President Rodrigo Duterte regarding the matter./PLL, WDJ
