The Capiz Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) recently ordered the evacuation of Barangay Agbatuan in Dumarao after “critical ground movement” was detected Monday afternoon, which indicates a potential for landslides.
The province has been battered by heavy rains over the past few weeks, with widespread flooding impacting over 100 barangays following Tropical Depression Agaton.
While no landslide has been reported, Capiz PDRRMO head Esperidion Pelaez said the evacuation was preemptive in order to reduce the risk of casualty or injury. He also noted personnel from the town DRRMO are on standby.
According to a report by the Negros Occidental PDRRMO, rainy conditions may continue until late February or into March.
Meanwhile, National Economic and Development Authority-Region VI (NEDA-6) Director Ro-Ann Bacal called on government agencies to submit a list of projects affected by the recent tropical storm, noting the data gathered will be included in a report that will be submitted to the national office in order for funds to be realigned.
She pointed out, major problem areas are located in Iloilo and Capiz./PLL, WDJ
