Brazilian footballer Arthur Antunes Coimbra, better known as ‘Zico,’ will be in the Philippines later this month, working with young footballers from underprivileged communities for a corporate social responsibility event on January 27 and conducting a football clinic at McKinley Hill Stadium in Taguig City the following day.
“We are delighted to welcome Zico to the Philippines,” said Seven Seas Properties President Yukihiro Nishimura. “He will give a big boost to the growing football scene here.”
As a player, he won the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A three times with Brazilian club Flamengo, along with the 1993 J.League title with Japanese club Kashima Antlers.
He also suited up for Brazil in the 1978, 1982, and 1986 World Cups.
After hanging up his boots, Zico took on the position of manager, where he won the 2006-2007 Süper Lig with Turkish club Fenerbahçe SK.
He has also picked up various titles at the helm of FC Bunyodkor in Uzbekistan and CSKA Moscow in Russia.
In 2015, he also launched a bid for the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) presidency, following the ouster of former President Sepp Blatter./JSG, WDJ
