The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) yesterday said Negros Occidental will likely experience more rains in the coming days due to the ongoing presence of the tailend of a cold front and a northeast monsoon.
PDRRMO head Zeaphard Caelian reiterated the weather combination was brought about by a ‘weak’ La Niña phenomenon.
He said, over the weekend, they did not record any incidents of flooding or any casualties attributed to the bad weather. However, Caelian said every local DRRMO has been ordered to provide updates, as well as monitor the weather due to the high probability of flash floods or landslides.
“The problem here is the cold front is smacked over in the eastern Visayas region,” Caelian explained.
He added, the presence of the weather system is generating more precipitation and cloud cover.
The PDRRMO head also pointed out Negrosanons can enjoy some good weather once the cold front disappears, although rainy conditions may last until late February and into March./DGB, WDJ
