The Bacolod City Health Office (CHO) yesterday reported a 200 percent drop in the number of dengue cases in the first week of the January, with 14 reported cases as compared to 43 reported during the same period last year.
According to CHO Environment Sanitation Division head, Dr. Grace Tan, the drop was attributed to the consistent heavy rains currently being experienced throughout Negros Occidental.
“Most of the stagnant water collected in an area were washed out,” she explained.
Barangay Handumanan was identified as a ‘hotspot area’ after recording an increased number of cases over four consecutive weeks.
CHO also noted, a five-year-old male from Barangay 17 died from dengue earlier this month, on January 2./NC, WDJ
