A local sari-sari store owner was interviewed by Bombo Radyo-Bacolod yesterday morning, where they claimed the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Law is resulting in higher prices and lower revenue.
According to Gitching Delmo, who operates a store at Purok Sigay in Barangay 2, Bacolod City, the price increases on soft drinks and cigarettes are “too much.”
She said a pack of cigarettes that used to cost P50, now costs P65; while the price for a case of soft drinks went from P196 to P250.
Delmo added, her income has also decreased, claiming, prior to the law, she was earning around P1,500 a day. She said her current daily earning are between P900 and P1,000.
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) earlier claimed the law’s effect on primary commodities would be minimal.
Aside from price hikes on primary commodities, the law is also expected to increase prices on fuel and electricity./DGB, WDJ
