Given the impending increase in power rates, as recently suggested by Central Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Ceneco) General Manager Sulpicio Lagarde, which he attributed to the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Law, Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Alfonso Cusi recommended adopting an “energy-efficient lifestyle.”
“I’d like to emphasize the concept of smart energy utilization, so consumers can save on energy costs,” he said.
The cabinet official offered some advice, including the utilization of items such as fuel-efficient vehicles and smart appliances, along with practices like cleaning light bulbs and air conditioners, and unplugging appliances that are not in use.
In terms of vehicle use, Cusi suggested proper maintenance and using clean fuels, along with a variety of other tips to prolong the service life of the car.
In a report yesterday, Lagarde said consumer power bills could rise by 7¢ per kilowatt-hour (kWh) due to the imposed excise tax on coal.
The December 2017 rate was P10.0318/kWh./PLL, WDJ
