Reports from the Pamplona Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) in Negros Oriental said rains from Tropical Depression Agaton caused the Tanjay River to overflow last Wednesday and contributed to landslides, along with damaging a bridge, which was still deemed impassable as of yesterday afternoon.
According to DRRMO head Lorena Jo Ebora, the largest landslide was reported at Sitio Siete, located in the town’s Barangay San Isidro.
The DRRMO, alongside the Department of Public Works and Highways and the Negros Oriental provincial government, are currently conducting clearing operations.
Earlier this week, the storm was also responsible for a landslide along the Lantawan-Patag road in Silay City.
Tropical Depression Agaton initially made landfall in Negros on the morning of January 2, near Bais City, Negros Oriental./PLL, WDJ
