While speaking during Rizal Day rites last week, which marked the 121th death anniversary of the national hero, Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6) director, Police Chief Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag, said today’s youth needs guidance, noting 40 percent of surrendered drug personalities are young people.
“We cannot let our youths navigate the road to positive change by themselves,” he said. “We have to share our wisdom with them.”
The PRO-6 chief characterized the high number of young people involved with illegal drugs as “the opposite of Rizal’s words.”
During the national commemoration at the Rizal Monument in Luneta, President Rodrigo Duterte called on Filipinos to use Rizal as an example.
“As an author and as a scholar, he denounced corruption, greed, and other social ills that, up to this day, continue to plague our society,” the president stated. “Let us reflect on his patriotism as we strive to continue his work of building a more united, peaceful and prosperous Philippines.”/PLL, WDJ
