Following the recent Christmas and New Year celebrations, Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6) spokesperson, Police Superintendent Gilbert Gorero, said 841 criminal incidents were recorded between December 16, 2017 and January 1, 2018, a drop of 67.75 percent from the same period in the prior year.
Last year, a total 2,918 criminal incidents were recorded.
Law enforcement credited cooperation and vigilance from the public.
“Let’s continue to remain united and vigilant as we start 2018 with high hopes for Western Visayas,” he said.
There was one indiscriminate firing case recorded in Buruanga, Aklan, which is currently under investigation.
Meanwhile, firecracker usage was also down, with a slight decline in the number of firecracker-related injuries between last year and this year, dropping from 57 to 44.
The total number of those arrested in violation of Executive Order No. 28, signed earlier this year by President Rodrigo Duterte, which regulates the use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnics, has yet to be determined./WDJ
