The Philippine National Police (PNP) reminded the public to secure their homes if they plan to be away during the holidays.

The agency suggested having a burglar alarm if possible, in order for others to be made aware of an intruder; do not leave notes outside the house or posts on social media indicating the residents will be away, which is a signal the home will be vacated; and have a neighbor keep an eye on the house.

Valuables that are usually placed outside, including bikes and motorcycles, should also be secured.

These safety advisories also apply to being away for meetings, parties, or other similar events as burglars are particularly active during the holidays.

In terms of general safety, the PNP also reminded the public to make sure electrical appliances are pulled from their sockets, water faucets are turned off, and no candles are lit./WDJ
