The Magsaysay-Araneta flyover, which spans an area the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) called “one of the busiest streets in Bacolod City,” opened yesterday, following eight months of construction.
DPWH Secretary Mark Villar called the inauguration of the structure a “Christmas gift” for Bacolodnons.
He also thanked the city government, along with the French government, which helped fund the P300 million project.
According to the DPWH, over 40,000 vehicles pass the intersection every day.
During a press conference earlier this month, Bacolod Lone District Rep. Greg Gasataya said the flyover was supposed to open last week, December 15.
The structure was initially scheduled to open by the end of November, with the congressman previously speculating an early opening in October.
A memorandum of agreement for the flyover’s construction was first signed back in December 2015./DGB, WDJ
