850 families displaced across Panay

Based on data provided yesterday by the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council-Region VI (RDRRMC-6) and Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6), a total 850 families have been displaced by Tropical Storm Urduja.

The storm made landfall in Aklan last Sunday night, resulting in, as of press time, 349 families being evacuated and 45 barangays flooded. In addition, nearly 300 families were evacuated in Capiz; with another 203 displaced in Iloilo.

The Office of Civil Defense-Region VI is also continuing to collect data regarding the storm.

Meanwhile, in the Eastern Visayas, or Region VIII, which was hit particularly hard by the storm, the RDRRMC-8 recorded a total of 52,428 displaced families.

In addition, based on the most recent reports, Urduja has claimed the lives of 32 people, with most dying after being buried alive following a landslide in Biliran.

According to the Philippine National Police-Region VIII, another 29 remain missing./W
