According to Negros Occidental Acting Provincial Administrator, Dr. Lucille Gelvolea, last weekend’s collapse of a portion of the under construction Capitol Central Mall, which resulted in the death of two laborers, caused a power interruption to the nearby Negros Occidental Provincial Capitol, resulting in delays in the release of their 14th month pay.
“It’s only a bit delayed,” she affirmed, speculating the funds should be ready within the week.
Gelvolea noted, a request was made to Central Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Ceneco) to open the lines to the Capitol.
The incident at the Capitol Central Mall site saw workers Doddy Boy Mallorca and Heracleo Abraham killed over the weekend after scaffolding and beams collapsed. Based on an initial assessment by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Negros Occidental Field Office chief Mary Agnes N. Capigon said inspectors found weaknesses within the scaffolding./PLL, WDJ
