The Bacolod City Health Office (CHO) yesterday ruled out bacterial disease, meningococcemia, as the reason a five-year-old Bacolod City boy died over the weekend.
CHO Sanitation Division head, Dr. Grace Tan, said the five-year-old kid, who was not named, began vomiting while attending classes last Friday.
Tan said the minor was admitted by his family to two private hospitals in Bacolod City.
The five-year-old was later transferred to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) after the patient began showing symptoms of meningococcemia, which can include fever, headache, vomiting, sensitivity to light, along with an altered mental state in some cases.
The minor passed away on Sunday.
After conducting several tests, the patient tested negative for the disease.
She added, CHO is currently awaiting a confirmatory report from CLMMRH.
As a precaution, the patient’s family were provided antibiotics, while classes at the kid’s school were temporarily suspended in order to disinfect the school./DGB, WDJ
