Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said there is “no reason for President Rodrigo Duterte to declare a revolutionary government,” following recent statements made by the president.

In a recent interview, Lacson said the statement could just be a strategy by the president to counter groups who are planning to overthrow him. Among the groups allegedly planning to overthrow the president include communist rebels.

The president also claimed that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is planning to overthrow him.

Lacson, meanwhile, said Congress should proceed with discussions regarding a shift to a federal form of government.

Meanwhile, Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. agreed with Lacson’s statement, adding Congress should “rigidly scrutinize” all aspects of federalism.

Last year, after Duterte was elected president, the governor stated, “I’ve been advocating federalism since before.”/DGB, WDJ
