Following last month’s four-day training of the Tiger Shark Volunteer Group, a group of disaster relief volunteers, by the Iloilo City Youth Development Division (CYDD), in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross, another training was recently conducted by the Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CDRRMC) this past week.

A total 120 volunteers, from groups including the said volunteer group, the Navy Reserve Rescue Group, the K9 Rescue Group, among others, took part in trainings that included a rope technician course and rappelling.

“This is part of the training provided by the city government to our volunteer groups, for them to be better prepared during disaster,” said CDRRMC volunteer cluster head Rey Jason Gregorio.

“Although we have not given them any equipment that they can use during rescue, at least we have provided them with training,” he added.

Earlier, the CYDD announced they would be holding Disaster Resiliency Camps in Iloilo City this month and in December; a project conducted in partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government-Region VI (DILG-6) and the Liga ng mga Barangay (Liga).

Organizers expect around 300 participants for each camp./PLL, WDJ
