A resolution calling for the city to observe National Mental Health Week passed the Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) on its third and final reading earlier this week.
According to the legislation, Bacolod City will take part in the annual celebration, which falls on the second week of October and raises awareness on mental health issues.
The observance was first introduced through Proclamation No. 452, by then-President Carlos P. Garcia, back in 1957. The period of celebration was moved from the third week of January to its current time frame through Proclamation No. 452, by then-President Fidel V. Ramos, in 1994.
The change was made in order for the observance to coincide with World Mental Health Day, which falls on October 10./PLL, WDJ
