Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) regional director, Atty. Johnson Cañete, announced the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) would be holding two public hearings on a proposal to raise wages for house helpers, or “kasambahay.”

Currently, house helpers in cities and first-class municipalities receive a P2,500 a month wage, while those in other municipalities earn P2,000 a month.
According to Cañete, no formal petition was filed seeking such a measure, instead the plan came about through a survey of DOLE employees.
The first hearing is scheduled for October 17 in Iloilo City, while the second will take place in Bacolod City on October 23./WDJ
