The Philippine national football team, the Azkals, called up five Davao Aguilas FC players for their upcoming clash with Yemen in the ongoing 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualification round, scheduled for next week, October 10, at the Saoud bin Abdulrahman Stadium in Al Wakrah, Qatar.
Among those called up include goalkeeper Nick O’Donnell, midfielders Dylan De Bruycker and James Younghusband, striker Phil Younghusband; alongside defender Simone Rota, who joined the Davao City club earlier this year from Ceres-Negros FC.
“The call up is a confirmation [Davao Aguilas FC] players have quality,” said coach Marlon Maro.
The team is coming off a 2-2 draw against Yemen, which took place last month at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City. Both Younghusbands delivered goals, keeping the team undefeated and atop Group F.
Currently, the Azkals lead the group with seven points, as Yemen sits in second place with five./WDJ
