A Davao City professor was robbed along C.L. Montelibano Avenue in Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City, Monday.
Police did not name the victim, but noted he is a psychology professor from Davao City.
In a radio interview, the professor said, prior to visiting Bacolod City, he was warned to be careful of hold-up incidents.
He claimed the incident occurred the day before he was scheduled to return to Davao City, when suspects aboard a motorcycle aimed a firearm at him while he and his friends were standing outside a restaurant in the said location.
The professor has since called for the city government and local law enforcement to strengthen security throughout the city.
Last week, Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) acting director, Police Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, denied the chatter on social media claiming Bacolod City was not safe, which cited a rise in hold-up incidents, thefts, and carnappings.
“If there is an agency which can declare a security threat, whether an area is safe or not, it is the PNP (Philippine National Police),” Wanky affirmed.
Meanwhile, Bacolod City Councilor Caesar Distrito earlier responded to the claims by saying those making such statements are “just scaring people.”/WDJ
