Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, during a press conference yesterday, called the flooding that inundated the city last Friday the worst in city history.

“There was never a time when flood waters were that high,” he said. “It was a surprise attack.”

In regards to settlers living by riverbanks, where many were forced to evacuate, with some having their homes washed away, while the mayor said he would allow them to rebuild their homes in the same location, he suggested they relocate.

“I’m appealing for them to not return,” Leonardia urged.

Leonardia also thanked first responders for helping city residents.

Last Friday, hundreds of Bacolod City residents fled their homes after heavy downpours caused massive flooding across several parts of the city.

The flooding also caused massive traffic pileups, leaving hundreds of commuters stranded./DGB, WDJ
