The Office of the Ombudsman ordered the suspension of Escalante City Vice Mayor Santiago Maravillas over illegal termination allegations from a 2016 case.
In an order released yesterday morning, Maravillas was found guilty of illegally terminating Angel Sinadjan, a livestock inspector for the city veterinary office.
Sinadjan claimed he and over 70 employees were released without “due process.”
According to the Ombudsman, the said termination was “a clear display of excessive use of authority.”
The decision cited Section 36 (a), Article IX of Presidential Decree No. 807, or the Civil Service Decree of the Philippines and the Administrative Code of 1987.
“It is an act of cruelty, severity, or excessive use of authority,” they added.
Watchmen Daily Journal attempted to contact Maravillas yesterday, however he has yet to give his response as of press time./WDJ
