A plain-clothed police officer apprehended a taxi driver armed with a knife at the Goldenfields Commercial Complex, located in Barangay Tangub, Bacolod City, early Thursday morning.
Police identified the suspect as Jerson Lumangyao, a resident of Calatrava, temporarily living in Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City.
According to a report by Police Station 8 (PS8), two men and two women boarded Lumangyao’s taxi from San Juan-Luzuriaga Streets and requested to be taken to the said location.
Upon arrival at the final destination, one of the male passengers, identified as Police Officer 3 (PO3) Gustave Roy Torres, demanded the suspect hand over his license.
Torres, an officer of the Kabankalan City Police Station, said he requested the suspect’s license in order to identify the driver, however, Lumangyao responded to the request by pulling out a knife and chasing the passengers, which resulted in the driver’s arrest.
The police officer noted, during a conversation that took place in the taxi, two of the passengers mentioned being from Guihulngan City, wherein the suspect admitted to being a member of the group who ambushed members of the city’s police force last July./WDJ
