Following trips to Japan and Malaysia, Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog spokesperson, Atty. Mark Piad, said yesterday the mayor has been on sick leave since Monday, September 11, and is expected to be away until the end of the month.
However, despite the spokesperson previously stating Mabilog would be in Malaysia between September 7 and 9, Piad confirmed the mayor has yet to return to the country, but refused to disclose his current whereabouts.
The spokesperson, meanwhile, noted, “The mayor’s directive is that we should all continue to perform our duties and mandates because we owe it to the people of Iloilo City.”
He added, due to stress, “[Mabilog] will be needing time to recuperate.”
Previously, both Piad and Iloilo City Administrator, Atty. Hernando Galvez, fended off rumors the mayor was fleeing the country, as he had left a day before the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) conducted an inspection of his waterfront home, which overlooks the Iloilo River.
According to the spokesperson, Mabilog is seeking treatment for diabetes./WDJ
