The Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) yesterday passed a resolution requesting the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) to increase their surveillance operations against illegal gambling in the city.
In an email sent by City Councilor Sonya Verdeflor, the legislation was prompted following the recent visit to the city by Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) chairman Jose Jorge Corpuz, who also released a directive requesting the local police to arrest those involved in illegal gambling.
However, earlier this week, according to Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) acting director, Police Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, Corpus indicated his content with the anti-illegal gambling campaign in Bacolod City, following a presentation by the BCPO regarding the said campaign.
The resolution also called on Wanky to direct his 10 police station commanders to increase surveillance operations against illegal gambling. However, the BCPO chief previously pointed out that local police successfully completed the directive by the national government last July 31, seeking an end to all illegal gambling activities within 15 days of receiving the order.
He added, most gambling operators in the city have ceased their illegal activities and are currently being monitored./WDJ
