Following flooding in Iloilo City after recent heavy rainfall, acting Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III urged market vendors to properly dispose of their refuse.
“We have gathered plastic garbage in the drainage system at Iloilo Terminal Market and Central Market,” he said. “We are appealing to our vendors to, as much as possible, not throw plastic garbage in our drainage system.”
The vice mayor noted, the City Engineer’s Office is constantly conducting de-clogging operations and blamed the flooding situation on the blocked drainage system.
Meanwhile, he has also requested the City Council urge drainage contractors to complete their respective projects.
“Any construction, whether it is new or ongoing, should be completed immediately,” Espinosa stated./WDJ
