A woman was wounded during a struggle to escape an attempted rape in a sugarcane field in Bacolod City, last Friday.
Police have refused to identify the victim, but confirmed she is a resident of Barangay Mansilingan in the said city.
According to reports, the incident occurred as the victim was on her way home from work when the assailant, identified as 22-year-old Julius Añola, sexually assaulted her.
The victim, who was recently released from the hospital, fought the suspect unaware he was armed with a knife. She said she only found out after the knife broke.
She was rescued by a passing tricycle driver, who happened to be the victim’s cousin.
The suspect was eventually nabbed by police through a subsequent follow-up operation.
Añola has since denied the allegations and is currently being held at Police Station 7, where he faces attempted rape charges./WDJ
